Is there a way to:

HOME link sitewide add rel="author" so that all pages point to the home page as author

Or can this be done inthe footer with %author-url% but I can't seem to get this to work (as normal)

Any tips would be most appreciated.

Can you have a home link on every post in the footer ?

You could put the link code in the footer box(es) in Style Post/Page Info Items
