I have been searching the internet for a while now and can't find a solution for my problem:

What I want: when you click on one of the top navigation links the category bar will show you something else.

Example:

Toplink 1 | Toplink2 | Toplink 3
category 1 | category 2 | category 3

Toplink 1 | Toplink2 | Toplink 3
category 4 | category 5 | category 6

Toplink 1 | Toplink2 | Toplink 3
category 7 | category 8 | category 9


I tried different things but can't get it to work. Is it even possible and if so, how?

I'm sure it's possible by searching out the selectors and using floats but for usability the vertical dropdown is more user friendly IMHO.

So basically it's not supported by default within WP or Atahualpa, too bad in that case I'll use the dropdowns

Nope... There are some plugins that will do that such as Likno AllWebMenus but are a bit cumbersome to set up unless you get their premium WP package.
