Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

Load Speed & Hosting Revisited...

I looked again through this thread today, as I'm again seeing huge speed problems on shared servers.

My issue is specifically GoDaddy, which, as of this week, is almost unusable for working with Atahualpa or other themes with "control panel" type setups. Long load times for theme option pages, followed by complete server hangups, and your site being down for 3-5 minutes. This happens even with one-post, couple pages, no-plugin sites in the first hours of development.

When emailing GD's tech support, I did get this response, which I include for your amusement:

"Unfortunately, the version of WordPress that is available as a quick install is the free version and so there are some limitations that will be encountered."

Hmmm. The "free" version of Wordpress. Well, that explains it! Anyway.

I've used this theme on various clients' (non-GD) hosting accounts and it seems to run fine. Anyone with complex ATA sites, on affordable shared hosting, that can recommend some hosting plans to check out?

I'd love to see a poll or sticky with "tested & recommended hosting providers" and also "not recommended".

Thanks all, for any input!

Wordpress 3.4.1, Atahualpa 3.7.7
I have had good luck so far with hostgator.com. I have one very complex and several other less complex sites hosted there, after moving from prohosting.com. Prohosting had become horribly slow over the years, and I suspect they were just not upgrading their servers or software. Even their control panel was antiquated. Hostgator's folks seem to know Wordpress and they offer automatic Wordpress installation via Fantastico. They ported over the entire sites, although there were a few issues here and there with the imports.

Overall, their support is excellent.

I use HostMonster/BlueHost for all my sites and have been pleased.
