Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

Has anyone had any good luck with either modifying the existing search capability or using a search plugin? The basic search works akay, but I would like it to display results using "any" of the words people enter. For example if someone enters a three word search term, right now the search results must match all three words exactly. It would be nice to have results show up if they match at least one of the terms. Even better yet, "similar" would be nice as I'm finding many people are misspelling words.

Being a Theme, Atahualpa does not control the search functions. What you are seeing is the built-in WordPress search abilities. A quick google search using 'wordpress search' brings up a couple plugins you could try out.

If you do find a 'good' one, please report back so others can benefit from your experiences

Thanks Juggledad.
By any chance, do you know what file the wordpress built-in search function programming code is found in? I would like to take a look at it and see if there are any improvements I can make directly if possible.

Thanks. I'll take a look and post back if I find any good options that work well.

(I tried that particular plugin yesterday and couldn't get it to work, but I'll take a further look.)

On my news site, I use Google Custom Search in a text widget because we need for it to search all the way back to our 2002 non-Wordpress content. It works pretty well, better than the built-in Wordpress search, and I never found a regular plugin that would search beyond the Wordpress database.

Thanks Paula, I'll take a look at that option also. The biggest thing I'm looking for is for the search function to return results for "any" of the words entered like I mentioned. I've been finding that many people either misspell things or enter a combination of words which produce no results. The results seem to have to match exactly with the standard wordpress search.

Thanks for your input. I'll see if that works as well.

Good Morning,

As I couldn't find any thread where members introducing themselves, so as this is my first post here I would say hello to everyone.

Have found Atahualpa theme recently, and have decided to change my last theme to Atahualpa in one of my blogs.
It seems to be better than the old one, more customization is possible.
I think there are only two problems that bothered me recently.

First is regarding to search plugin.

I am trying to implement google custom search to Atahualpa, or to Wordpress, and don't have idea what I'm doing wrong, but the plugin doesn't seem to work properly.

Do I need to create search.php file and then upload it to my server ? or do I need to add additional search page to my website? create searchform? It seems I don't know how to put google code to my blog. Have been following few "how to implement google search to your wordpress blog" but I think that I'm missing something.

Ok, I have installed Q2W3 Inc Manager, which allows me to insert html, css , javascript and PHP code to public wordpress pages, and it seems to be sorted out – well sort of.

Actually when I hit custom search, I got results on my page twice and the other problem is that I don’t get google ads displayed. I have changed something and now I got the results just once, but in separate window. And another problem is that all search results leading to main blog addres [aboutpipesmoking.com], and not to separate posts.

Maybe you have any idea for that?

with Regards,
Marcin

Welcome.

It's not a plugin. I got the code from Google (do a search for Google Custom Search) and put it in a text widget and put that in my left sidebar: http://larchmontgazette.com.
