Atahualpa search box is in the header (or sidebar) - see ato->Style & edit HEADER AREA->Show search box?

I suspect the search box will go wherever you put the code. What have you tried?

The plugins implie you do not have to put the code anywhere

What plugin are you using. If it has a widget did you add it to where you want it?

The instructions for the first one you mention say

4. Add Google Custom Search Widget.

the second one references WP 2.7 so it looks very old....and the authors home page hasn't been updated since 2011

Widget makes search appear, but search does not work.

what is the site and where did you put the widget?

Development site, not on DMZ.

And I don't know how a Google search plugin would work unless you have a site Google can access.
