Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

How do I change the color of my side bars, header & footer?

Sorry if this question is totally stupid, or if I should be posting it somewhere else. I'm brand new to working with wordpress. I've currently got an established blog that is hosted with Blogger. I'd eventually like to transfer my Blogger blog over to wordpress, but am currently working on a "sister blog" to get the hang of things, before I switch over my main blog.

I've got no idea how to change the color of the side bars, header and footer, while leaving the main body white. I've tried to have a play around in my wordpress settings, and so far I haven't gotten very far. It seems like every change I try to make doesn't actually show up when I refresh my blog. I have managed to remove the top Blog title, but would like to remove the whole top header, so it's just the image that shows up. I'd also like to remove the opaque bars on the side of the image. Can anyone help me? How do I change the colours?

Blog: http://www.dinnersmadewithpink.com

Thanks very much,

It's done with CSS. You first have to either go to the appropriate theme option or you have to determine the selector for what you want to change and them put in the proper CSS code for that change.

For instace to affect various aspects of the sidebar you might go to the Style & Conigure Sidebar or the Style Widgets section of the theme option and put the proper CSS there.

To learn more about CSS (which is real important) go to w3schools.com

I would just start wandering through the various sections of the theme options and reading what is there.

Thanks, yes I know that it has to be done through CSS. I know what color I want the side bars to be, but when I adjusted the color code from the original to the one I wanted nothing changed. Why is this? DO I need to input more coding?

Can you post a sample of the code and where you put it? Also do you want the whole sidebar a particular color or just the widgets?

Basically I'd like my blog to look something like this:

But right now all I've managed to do to my blog is this

It seems like whenever I make changes to the theme via wordpress it takes a while for them to show up on my blog. They're not instant, which is really confusing because I'll go to check to see if the code I've put in is correct and no changes have been made, but the next time I look at my blog (say 15 mins later) the changes appear.

Could someone suggest how to go about making my blog look like sample one I've put together in the image? What areas of the Atahuapla theme should I be working on? The small bits of code that are all broken down by page area, or the larger CSS editor area?

Chech to see if you have a caching plugin active, if so deactivate it, that should take care of the delay

look in the plugins section of the wordpress backend for the section 'plugins'

You might want to take a tutorial on wordpress so you know the parts and what they do.
