I have been trying to upgrade to 3.5.3 and then to import my 3.4.9 styles but that isn't working for me. Can someone explain how to install 3.4.9 and have theme working without the blank page.

You can't import 3.4.9 styles into version 3.5.3 and if you are manually upgrading to 3.5.3 on the same installation you shouldn't have to. Can you list what you have done so far? Then maybe I can suggest next steps.

I installed 3.5.3 and then tried to import the style from 3.4.9 , I did not over write the folder and have the two versions in the theme folder. But The 3.4.9 styles are not being imported in 3.5.3. I am using this on a local XAMPP install . I will be uploading these to the server in the coming days. I shall try it on the server and if that also doesn't work, I shall post this again with a url to the site. I know, its pretty hard for someone to guess whats happening on a local server. When you switch to the 3.5.3 version what do you see?

When I switch to 3.5.3, I see the new basic styles and it is the importing from 3.4.9 that fails to work.

Try switching to 3.5.3 and going to ATO>Import/Export setting and hit the Delete bfa_ata4 button to see if that picks up your 3.4.9 settings.

NO do not do that if you hit the 'delete bfa4' button, you will loose all of the 3.4.9 settings since they are stored in the bfa_ata4 record

there was a change between 3.4.9 and 3.5.2 in the way the exports are created. In order to import a 3.4.9 setting file you must follow the directions at http://forum.bytesforall.com/showthread.php?t=8374

or, you could install 3.4.9 and 3.5.3 at the site you want to transfer the settings to. then activate 3.4.9 and do the import. Once imported, activate 3.5.3 and you could remove 3.4.9
