The code I've set for the header is a ridiculous

%bar1 %bar1 %bar1 %pages %image %bar1 %bar1 %bar1

just to make the point that the bar code is not working.

Actually, I'm trying to remove both bars and put a one px black border around the image. However, removing the code for the bars does not remove them. Making them 20 px wide does not change them from the default of 5px. So, to test what is happening, I tried adding bars, per the above. Nothing changes.

Am on the wrong page? or what?

go to your CSS Inserts and remove

border-top: solid 5px #333; 
border-bottom: solid 5px #333; 
}
